Ukraine's Weekend Weather Forecast: Dry but Icy Roads Ahead
Weather Forecast for Ukraine on February 28
According to ХВИЛЯ: Ukraine is set for a cloudy day with occasional clear spells and no precipitation on February 28, though the risk of icy roads is a significant hazard. The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center warns that fog is possible in places overnight and in the morning across most central regions, as well as in Sumy and Kharkiv oblasts. A sharp contrast in temperatures will be observed across the country.
The risk of icy roads persists for most areas, except in the south and Zakarpattia. Winds will be south-westerly, shifting to north-easterly in the eastern and southern oblasts, with speeds of 5-10 meters per second. Nighttime temperatures will range from 1 to 6 degrees below zero Celsius, while the eastern regions and the Carpathians will see a colder 7 to 12 degrees below zero. During the day, temperatures will rise to between 0 and 5 degrees above zero, with warmer conditions of 6 to 11 degrees in the west and south.
Weather in the Kyiv Region
Kyiv Oblast and the city of Kyiv are also forecast to have cloudy weather with clear spells and no precipitation on February 28. Nighttime temperatures in the oblast will be between 1 and 6 degrees below zero, rising to 0 to 5 degrees above zero during the day. In the capital, temperatures at night will range from 3 to 5 degrees below zero, reaching 2 to 4 degrees above zero in the daytime.
A period of settled weather is expected across Ukraine from February 28 through March 2, driven by a high-pressure system. As specialists from the Hydrometeorological Center noted,
'From February 28 to March 2, we forecast a calm synoptic situation in Ukraine, and accordingly, calm weather.'
Therefore, relatively calm weather is anticipated for the end of February in Ukraine, but drivers must exercise caution due to the potential for icy roads. This stable weather pattern, common for late winter, can be beneficial for agriculture, but it is crucial to remain vigilant while traveling, especially given the ongoing ice risk.
