Ukraine's Postal Service to Launch Parcel Pickup at Cafes and Stores by 2026
Ukrposhta's New Delivery Model
According to ХВИЛЯ: Ukraine's national postal service, Ukrposhta, is set to overhaul its parcel delivery system. Starting in the first quarter of 2026, customers will be able to collect their packages from a network of local businesses, including cafes and retail stores. This move is part of a broader modernization effort to compete with private logistics firms. General Director Ihor Smilianskyi explained that the new approach involves creating an extensive network of agent locations, allowing entrepreneurs to partner with Ukrposhta and receive payment for each parcel they hand out.
The project is currently being piloted in Kyiv, where nine agent locations are operating in a test phase. The company plans to install approximately 1,000 parcel lockers by early 2026 and will also update its mobile application to simplify the pickup process for users.
Financial Performance and Strategic Plans
In the fourth quarter of 2025, Ukrposhta reported a net profit of 257.9 million hryvnias, a 69.2% increase compared to the same period the previous year. The sale of company assets contributed 168 million hryvnias to this result. Ihor Smilianskyi emphasized that the new strategy does not require significant capital expenditure or renovations, which will allow for a faster network expansion to improve customer convenience.
The introduction of these new delivery formats demonstrates Ukrposhta's adaptation to modern customer needs and the growing competition in the logistics market. Expanding the agent network and implementing new technologies could significantly enhance convenience for consumers, which in turn may boost delivery volumes. The successful execution of this project could also positively impact the company's financial performance in subsequent periods.
