Ukrzaliznytsia's Winter Aid Efforts

According to Міністерство інфраструктури: During the winter season, Ukrzaliznytsia is playing a vital role in supporting Ukraine by restoring heating systems, importing electricity, and operating mobile resilience shelters. More than 40 of the railway's emergency teams are active in Kyiv, focused on repairing infrastructure damaged in recent attacks. Since the strikes on January 9, 2026, these railway workers have already restored heat to over 30 apartment buildings.

Power Imports and Mobile Resilience Hubs

This winter, Ukrzaliznytsia will import approximately 50% of the country's total electricity consumption. The railway has also deployed 16 mobile resilience hubs, which are now operating in the cities of Boryspil, Brovary, Fastiv, Vasylkiv, and Vyshneve. Since opening on January 10, these hubs have already provided refuge for over 5,000 people, and in total since winter began, they have sheltered more than 400,000 individuals. These operations are critical as Ukraine faces a wartime energy crisis alongside harsh winter conditions.

Across Ukraine's major railway stations, 97 permanent resilience points are in operation. Since the onset of severe frosts on January 9, 2026, these stations have taken in nearly 150,000 people. Additionally, in the Kyiv region, the Food Train service has prepared around 15,000 servings of hot meals for those in need. Ukrzaliznytsia is also prepared to dispatch 100 railcars to various Ukrainian regions, demonstrating its readiness to support the population throughout this difficult winter.

Oleksiy Kuleba noted: 'Under the conditions of a full-scale war, Ukrzaliznytsia has become, without exaggeration, a strategic enterprise.'

Ukrzaliznytsia's winter activities are crucial for maintaining social infrastructure and providing essential services during the war and energy crisis. The import of electricity and the deployment of mobile shelters reflect a systematic approach to solving the urgent problems Ukrainians face due to severe weather and military challenges. These measures also highlight the importance of state enterprises working together to support citizens in difficult times.
