Electricity Price Locked Until 2026: What Ukrainians Will Pay Under the New Rate
Electricity Tariff Extension Confirmed
According to Главком: Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers has extended the current household electricity tariff through October 31, 2026. The rate for residential consumers remains fixed at 4.32 hryvnias per kilowatt-hour. As part of the new provisions, a subsidized rate will be introduced for certain groups of consumers:
- Homes and apartments using electric heating;
- Apartment buildings not connected to gas supply or central heating systems.
From October 1 to April 30, a reduced rate of 2.64 hryvnias per kWh will apply for consumption up to 2,000 kWh per month. Any usage beyond that threshold will be charged at 4.32 hryvnias per kWh.
Energy Sector Updates
The last adjustment to household electricity tariffs took place on June 1, 2024. On April 2 of this year, a meeting was held in Ukraine to review the implementation of regional and city resilience plans approved by the National Security and Defense Council. The Cabinet has allocated 12.85 billion hryvnias under these resilience plans, targeting the protection of 209 critical infrastructure sites in frontline regions and the Kyiv area.
Ukraine's total estimated need for energy sector restoration and modernization over the next decade stands at $90.6 billion-an increase of 34% compared to earlier damage assessments. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated:
“Resilience plans have been approved for every region across the country. Road repairs after winter are also ongoing. It is crucial not to waste time at the community and regional government levels. Every important facility must be secured.”
Extending the current electricity tariff and launching a subsidized rate are key steps to support households amid economic challenges, especially for those relying on electric heating. At the same time, the substantial funding allocated for critical infrastructure restoration highlights the urgent need to address the damage in conflict-affected areas. This also underscores the importance of a stable energy sector for the country's overall development.
As the government takes steps to stabilize household electricity costs, it's essential to understand the broader context of Ukraine's energy landscape. Recently, industrial power cuts were implemented alongside significant financial allocations for enhancing grid resilience. These measures reflect the ongoing challenges faced by the energy sector and highlight the importance of strategic planning to ensure reliable electricity supply for both residential and industrial consumers.
