A Woman Arrested in Odesa for Disrespecting the National Flag: What She Faces

According to glavcom.ua: A 35-year-old woman in the city of Odesa has been informed of suspicion for publicly disrespecting the national flag. It has been recorded that she tore the flag from the facade of a store and threw it in the trash. The report was received by the police of Odesa region on October 30.

The incident occurred near a supermarket in the Peresyp district of Odesa and was discovered during a review of social media by law enforcement officers.

Investigators have established that the video captured a local resident, who had been previously convicted multiple times for theft and drug offenses. Her actions were qualified under Part 1 of Article 338 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The suspect refused to explain her actions, and now she faces responsibility ranging from a fine to three years of imprisonment.

Events in Przemyśl and Sumy

In Przemyśl, Polish police arrested two men who threw the Ukrainian flag from the building of the Honorary Consulate of Ukraine. The individuals, aged 21 and 23, have been charged, and the case has been transferred to the district prosecutor's office. The police are also investigating the desecration of a soldier's grave in the city of Sumy. The wife of the deceased reported the disappearance of memorial items and damage to the Ukrainian national flag. A criminal proceeding has been opened under Article 297 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Recently, Ukraine has been facing incidents of disrespect towards national symbols, which indicates a deterioration in some aspects of civil society in the country. Authorities are taking measures to identify and punish the guilty, as well as to raise citizens' awareness of the importance of respecting national symbols.
