UN requests $550 million for Ukraine: only 45% of aid programs funded
According to hvylya.net: In 2025, the UNHCR appealed for $550 million for humanitarian programs for Ukrainians, but currently only 45% of this request has been financed. This was reported by representative Carolina Lindholm Billing.
'This year we are requesting $550 million for protection programs, which include free legal assistance, housing, temporary accommodations, and more. The request is currently financed at 45%, and we are already in the middle of the year,' emphasized Billing.
The UNHCR noted that the lack of funding hinders the provision of the necessary level of humanitarian aid to Ukrainians, especially considering the beginning of the second half of the year. Since the start of the invasion, the agency has been able to mobilize over $1.6 billion in aid for Ukrainians.
According to the UN, cash assistance has been received by 2.2 million Ukrainians, and over 43,000 homes have been repaired across the country.
In light of the trend of reduced funding for humanitarian and recovery programs, the UN calls on donor countries not to cut spending on aid to Ukraine. The international community is crucial to support the country in meeting the basic needs of millions of affected citizens. Insufficient funding could lead to a reduction in critical aid programs, which will particularly impact the most vulnerable segments of the population.
Representative Carolina Lindholm Billing stated that the UNHCR has appealed for $550 million in humanitarian assistance for the Ukrainian population, but currently only 45% of this amount has been raised. The UN calls on donors to support aid programs for Ukraine, as a lack of funding could threaten the lives of millions of people, especially the most vulnerable among them.
