Elections and referendum in March in question: Zheleznyak explained why the idea was postponed
The idea of holding presidential elections and a nationwide referendum as early as March is currently effectively put on pause. There is no active work on the relevant bills in the parliament, and political and technical risks make the rapid implementation of these plans unlikely. This was stated by people's deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak in his video blog .
According to him, the initiative regarding elections and a referendum was indeed discussed at the Bankova Street, and last week there were even talks about preparing legislative changes. It was about the possibility of holding the first round of presidential elections in extremely compressed timelines — within 60 days.
Elections in Ukraine and referendum: why the plans have lost relevance
As Zheleznyak explained, after the latest statements from Russia and the escalation of the negotiation topic, interest in this idea has significantly decreased. Besides political factors, the key problem remains the technical impossibility of organizing voting quickly.
Among the main challenges, the deputy named:
-
organizing voting abroad, for military personnel and IDPs;
-
the security situation and risks of enemy interference;
-
the lack of time for approving and launching a new law;
-
the lack of funds and clear rules for campaigning.
Under these conditions, according to Zheleznyak, passing the law in January and holding elections already in March is practically unrealistic.
Elections in Ukraine and personnel decisions in power
Separately, the people's deputy commented on personnel issues. According to him, the decision regarding the head of the President's Office is currently being postponed, and if it is not made by the end of the year, it may move to 2026. At the same time, no dismissals of deputy heads of the President's Office have occurred — in particular, information about the resignation of Oleg Tatarov is not true.
Also, no quick appointments in the Cabinet of Ministers are expected. Despite vacant positions of the Ministers of Energy and Justice, the parliament does not plan to make personnel decisions in the near future. According to Zheleznyak, major changes may be postponed until a separate personnel week in January.
Let us remind you that Yaroslav Zheleznyak stated that after the special operation 'Midas,' business structures associated with the figure of the case Timur Mindich are massively re-registering to new nominal owners.
