Ukraine's Zelenskyy Signs Law Granting Mobilization Deferral to 'Contract 18-24' Participants
Law on Social Protection for Military Personnel
According to Главком: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a law on social protection for military personnel, granting a one-year mobilization deferral to participants of the 'Contract 18-24' program. This measure is part of ongoing efforts to manage personnel needs during the prolonged conflict. Under the new legislation, individuals aged 18 to 25 who signed a one-year contract during martial law and completed their full 12-month service are eligible for the deferral upon their discharge.
The bill was finalized by the Ministry of Defense and the parliamentary committee on national security, defense, and intelligence before receiving parliamentary support. The 'Contract 18-24' program has now been expanded to include all combat units of Ukraine's Defense Forces. Participants, who must be between 18 and 24 years old, are allowed to choose their brigade for service.
Service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine
It is important to note that Ukrainians aged 18 to 24 can serve in the Armed Forces under contract. However, volunteers may be denied a contract due to health issues.
The law aims to incentivize youth to sign military contracts by offering guarantees that aid in future planning. In the context of the ongoing war, such measures are designed to boost interest in military service, which is crucial for national defense. Simultaneously, providing a deferral from future mobilization may help alleviate social tension among draft-eligible youth.
