The police do not have the right to check the contents of the first aid kit: what drivers need to know
Ukrainian drivers often argue about whether they need to show their medical first aid kit to the police. According to traffic rules, drivers must have a first aid kit in their vehicle that meets standard requirements and is intended for providing emergency medical assistance. The patrol officer has the right to check for the presence of a first aid kit, but is not obliged to check its contents.
“The law does not require the car owner to take the first aid kit out of the car or hand it over to the police - it is enough to simply show where it is located.”
For the absence of a first aid kit in personal transport, a fine for violating traffic rules is usually imposed, and for commercial transport, the fine may be significantly higher due to increased safety standards. There are no fines for the contents of the first aid kit regarding expired medications or an incomplete set, only the presence of a first aid kit as such is required.
