No restrictions for elderly drivers: The Rada has removed the bill
Age restrictions for drivers: what is happening?
Many drivers were wondering whether age restrictions will be introduced in Ukraine for driving a car. This idea was often associated with adapting domestic legislation to European standards. However, the bill on this was withdrawn from consideration, as confirmed on the website of the Verkhovna Rada.
Proposals from deputies
This bill proposed to establish additional requirements for older drivers, specifically mandatory medical examinations and proving the ability to drive safely after reaching a certain age. In some European countries, drivers of retirement age are subject to mandatory medical examinations, but the Ukrainian initiative did not find widespread support.
Cancellation of the bill
It has been officially announced that bill No. 40559 has been finally withdrawn from consideration. This means that it will not be put to a vote, and the discussion on the initiative has been halted. If this topic is revived, the authors will have to register a new version of the law from the beginning.
-
Ukraine is not introducing any age restrictions for drivers.
-
The rules for obtaining and renewing driver's licenses remain unchanged.
-
If the initiative arises again, it will go through the complete process of discussion and approvals.
Thus, the introduction of age restrictions for drivers in Ukraine is currently postponed. However, the system of fines for traffic violations and restrictions for drivers in an ill state remain relevant topics on our roads.
