Polymarket Platform Under Fire

According to НВ — Техно: On June 22 at 2:00 PM, a Wall Street Journal investigation revealed serious issues with the prediction platform Polymarket after analyzing 1,105 TikTok videos. The probe found that 778 of those clips showed users supposedly placing bets on fake websites designed to mimic the real Polymarket platform. None of those 778 videos actually used the company's genuine site.

The research indicated that video creators built custom websites that closely resembled the legitimate platform. In more than half of the clips claiming to show winning bets, the results were actually losses. Polymarket actively recruited content creators, supplying them with materials to produce these videos, and employed a 'social media army' to amplify and reshare the clips across the network.

Regulatory Actions and Consequences

In May of this year, Spain blocked both Polymarket and the prediction platform Kalshi. Spanish authorities are now investigating whether these platforms violate local gambling laws. Last month, Minnesota became the first U.S. state to ban such prediction platforms. Several other U.S. states have attempted to introduce similar restrictions, but those decisions are currently being challenged in court.

The situation surrounding Polymarket highlights growing regulatory concern over prediction platforms that may mislead users. As various countries and states begin cracking down on potential risks tied to online gambling, it will be important to monitor how events unfold and whether new regulations emerge in this sector. This could also shape the future of similar platforms and their ability to operate in the market.

In light of these recent revelations about Polymarket, it is essential to consider the broader implications of insider activity within the platform. A separate case involving a Google engineer, who allegedly made significant profits through insider bets on Polymarket, raises further questions about the ethics and transparency of such prediction markets.
