The Threat of Internal Destabilization: What is the Danger of Security Guarantees for Ukraine
The President of Ukraine stated that by the end of the year, events may occur that could significantly impact the security situation. Against this backdrop, discussions about possible agreements, guarantees, and scenarios for ending hostilities have re-emerged in the information space. At the same time, experts warn that some of these initiatives may pose direct risks to Ukraine. This was stated by political technologist Taras Zahorodnii during the broadcast of Apostrophe TV.
Taras Zahorodnii believes that some proposals regarding «security guarantees» are a form of political pressure and an attempt to destabilize Ukraine from within. According to him, these ideas are being used to create tension between the military and the military-political leadership and to foster a crisis of trust in society.
Scenarios of Pressure on Ukraine and the Role of the Election Topic
Zahorodnii emphasized that the issue of elections during wartime is actively used as a tool for destabilization. Conducting voting in wartime conditions, in his opinion, does not guarantee safety, the observance of military rights, and protection against external interference. That is why a significant part of the Ukrainian political elite is against such ideas.
Why the «fifth article» is not a real guarantee
The expert believes that the true guarantee of security for Ukraine remains its own army, the development of the defense industry, and the capacity to deliver preventive strikes. References to conditional analogs of NATO's fifth article, according to him, have no practical value without specific resources, funding, and integration into partners' defense chains.
In conclusion, Zahorodnii underscored:
“Ukraine should demand not abstract political promises, but clear and measurable decisions — financial support, joint defense projects, and real strengthening of its own defense capability”.
It should be noted that Zelensky and Trump discussed security guarantees for Ukraine on the eve of the New Year at Mar-a-Lago.
