The Governor of North Carolina supports the bill 'Iryna's Law'

According to glavcom.ua: The Governor of North Carolina in the USA, Josh Stein, has signed the bill 'Iryna's Law', named after the murdered Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska. Under this document, criminals will undergo stricter scrutiny before being released on bail, and cashless bail will be prohibited for certain violent crimes and for repeat offenders.

«This law... notifies the judicial system of the need for special consideration of individuals who may pose an unusual risk of violence before determining their bail. This is good, and that's why I signed this law... We can and must do more to ensure people's safety», - quotes the governor who is a representative of the Democratic Party, Fox News.

Additionally, the bill limits the powers of magistrates and judges in setting pretrial release conditions. Also, accused individuals will have to undergo a mental health evaluation before being released on bail.

Suspect arrested in the murder of Ukrainian refugee

'Iryna's Law' was passed in response to the tragic event in Charlotte when 23-year-old Ukrainian Iryna Zarutska was killed during an attack on the train. The suspect in the murder, 34-year-old Dekarlos Brown Jr., was arrested immediately. He was charged with first-degree murder. Later, the suspect's mother emphasized that her son has mental health issues, so releasing him would be dangerous.
