US Blamed for European Heatwave by Paris Deputy Mayor

Paris deputy mayor accuses US of causing heat in Europe

Climate Accountability: A Sharp Rebuke from Paris

According to Главком: Audrey Pulvar, the Deputy Mayor of Paris in charge of international relations, has pointed the finger at the United States for driving global warming and the extreme heat now gripping Europe. Her comments came as a direct response to American criticism over France's limited use of air conditioning. While roughly 90% of U.S. cities widely rely on cooling units, only about 25% of French households are equipped with them-a gap rooted in France's deliberate environmental policies to curb energy use.

Deadly Heatwave and Its Toll

A brutal heatwave that has swept across Europe since June 21 has already claimed over 1,300 lives. Pulvar argued that the United States, as the world's second-largest emitter of greenhouse gases, bears heavy responsibility for these deadly consequences.

'As the world's second-largest source of greenhouse gas emissions, you bear significant responsibility for global warming and the effects we are now experiencing in France.' Audrey Pulvar

She further urged action, stating: 'So, please, enough lectures. Just start doing your part. Respectfully.' The heatwave is hitting Europe especially hard, with warming rates here doubling the global average. World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has also highlighted the severity of the crisis, calling for urgent measures.

Europe is now the fastest-warming continent, raising serious concerns about future climate conditions.

Pulvar’s statement underscores the global nature of the climate crisis and the pressing need for international cooperation. The extreme weather in Europe, which has already resulted in significant loss of life, shows how global warming directly affects human well-being. As pressure mounts on governments worldwide, it is critical that dialogue continues and that climate challenges are tackled collectively.

The ongoing heatwave has not only impacted France but is also affecting neighboring regions, with reports indicating that the extreme weather has already claimed 55 lives and is now advancing towards Ukraine. This alarming trend highlights the urgent need for comprehensive climate action across Europe and beyond.
