Volyn Signs Forward Rostyslav Kabanov
According to Главком: Ukrainian club Volyn has officially signed 21-year-old forward Rostyslav Kabanov. Last season, the young basketball player competed for Niko-Basket in the Higher League. Across 16 Super League appearances, Kabanov averaged 4.4 points per game.
Club director Nikita Voevoda expressed confidence in the athlete's potential, stating:
“Rostyslav comes from a strong basketball background and has significant room for growth. We believe that within our system, he can take a meaningful step forward and unlock his full capabilities.” - Nikita Voevoda
He added: “We are delighted to welcome Rostyslav to the purple-and-gold family and wish him a successful season with Volyn.”
Ukraine’s Performance in FIBA World Cup Qualifiers
Alongside the signing news, the Ukrainian national basketball team continues its campaign for the 2027 FIBA World Cup. In the fourth round of qualifying, the squad suffered a 78:64 loss to Spain, with quarter scores of 16:9, 12:12, 24:22, and 26:21. The third round also ended in defeat against Spain, this time 66:86.
However, in the second qualifying match, Ukraine delivered a strong performance to beat Denmark 88:71. Earlier, in the opening game of the qualifiers, the Ukrainian team defeated Georgia with a score of 79:92. The standout performer in the Georgia-Ukraine match was Oleksandr Kovliar, who scored 31 points in 37 minutes of play. He was supported by:
- Oleksandr Lypovyi, who contributed 13 points
- Viacheslav Bobrov, who recorded a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds
