Zelensky Allowed 18-22 Year Old Men to Leave: What Are the Consequences for the Army
After the ban on leaving for Ukrainian men aged 18 to 22 was lifted, there were discrepancies in society regarding this step. President Volodymyr Zelensky introduced changes that allowed young Ukrainians to travel abroad without hindrance and not be suspected at the border. Statistics show that the conflict in Ukraine has caused a large number of refugees and internally displaced persons. This has led to fear among the youth, who felt restricted in their country and attempted to cooperate with the authorities or migrate abroad. Changes in migration policy have also affected education and the army. There has been a noticeable decrease in the number of students among graduates in schools, while the army is experiencing a staff shortage, creating additional challenges for society. The demographic crisis and the problem of emigration compel the government to take measures to retain and attract youth in the country. However, lifting the ban on leaving may provoke more young people to leave the country. In the end, many believe that lifting the ban on leaving is a political move aimed at reducing social pressure and demonstrating a weakening of governmental control. But for many young Ukrainians, the ability to travel freely and choose their future is extremely important.
