Zelensky will soon create a military administration in Odesa
President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that a military administration will soon be created in Odesa. The head of state emphasized that the decision is dictated by the need to strengthen the protection of the city and to resolve security issues. The appointment of a leader is expected in the near future.
Why Zelensky is introducing a military administration in Odesa
During the report, the president listened to the head of the SBU, Vasyl Maliuk, whom he thanked for effective combating Russian agent networks. According to Zelensky, the state's attention is currently focused on the southern regions, where the security situation remains tense.
«Odesa deserves greater protection and support. This can be implemented in the format of a military administration. Too many security issues in the city have long remained without adequate response», — said the president.
What the newly established military administration of Odesa will do
The newly established administration is tasked with coordinating the actions of local authorities, the military, and law enforcement, focusing on:
-
countering sabotage groups and agencies;
-
strengthening defensive measures in the coastal areas;
-
ensuring the stable operation of critical infrastructure.
It is expected that the appointment of the head of the military administration will take place in the coming days. The presidential team is convinced that this will allow for faster responses to security challenges in the region and will improve coordination between the security forces.
It is worth noting that on October 14, it became known that Odesa Mayor Hennadii Trukhanov was stripped of his Ukrainian citizenship. Because of this, he can no longer hold the position of mayor of Odesa.
