Zelensky on the blackout at the Zaporizhzhia NPP: fuel for generators will last for 10 days

Zelensky: Russian threat to the IAEA
Зеленський заявив про ситуацію з електропостачанням на Запорізькій АЕС: паливо для генераторів забезпечить роботу до тижня.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Russian shelling at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant has caused a blackout at the station for the eighth consecutive day. He emphasized that access for Ukrainian energy workers to the station is being blocked, posing a serious threat of radiation incidents.

“Russia is intentionally creating a threat of radiation incidents, taking advantage of the weakness of the IAEA and global indifference,” Zelensky noted.

The president called for vigorous measures to protect nuclear facilities, stressing that the war with Russia and continuous attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure create danger. He also expressed gratitude to all countries supporting Ukraine at this crucial moment.

IAEA confirms the threat at the ZNPP

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has officially confirmed the danger at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant due to Russian actions. IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi warned that if backup systems at the station are disabled, there could be a risk of nuclear fuel melting.

The Zaporizhzhia NPP has been without a main source of electricity for ten days due to Russian actions. This poses a serious threat to the safety of the station and radiation welfare,” the IAEA reported.

The Ukrainian leader called for immediate actions to prevent further incidents at the Zaporizhzhia NPP and expressed hope for support from neighboring countries and the global community.

The report from the President of Ukraine and the statement from the IAEA reflect the threat to safety at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant due to Russia’s actions and the demand for immediate measures to prevent further radiation incidents.
