Ukrainian President Meets with Canada’s Prime Minister
According to Главком: Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukraine’s president, held talks with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on May 4 in Yerevan. The discussions centered on three key areas:
- strengthening bilateral cooperation;
- defense assistance;
- efforts to bring back Ukrainian children abducted by Russia.
During the meeting, Carney announced an additional $200 million Canadian contribution to the PURL program. This brings Canada’s total funding for the initiative to over $830 million, as reported by the Office of the President of Ukraine.
Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to Canada for its defense aid packages and participation in PURL. He stressed the urgent need to bolster Ukraine’s air defense systems amid ongoing Russian strikes. The leaders also discussed continued support for Ukrainians and steps to recover the kidnapped children.
Talks with Poland’s Prime Minister
In addition to the meeting with Carney, Zelenskyy also sat down with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk during his visit to Armenia for the European Political Community summit. Their conversation focused on:
- a strategy for achieving a just peace;
- preparations for post-war reconstruction;
- Ukraine’s path toward European integration.
This meeting underscores the vital role of international support for Ukraine as it faces ongoing Russian aggression. It also reflects a renewed diplomatic push to resolve critical issues, particularly the return of abducted children.
