Ski jumper Jones on the controversial FIS inspection: what happened in Courchevel
The ski jumper complains about the new athlete inspection rules
American ski jumper Paige Jones has complained about the new athlete inspection rules before competitions. This was reported by 'Glavcom' referring to aftonbladet.se.
'Basically, we were forced to undress in front of a male doctor. We had to take off our underwear and stand with our legs apart while the doctor examined us for about 3-5 seconds before we could move on. We were asked if everything was okay and told that we could refuse. But the situation was still uncomfortable,' – Jones said.
In early August, 22-year-old American Paige Jones participated in the summer Grand Prix in Courchevel (France). To be allowed to start, the athletes and their equipment were checked in advance, as the costumes in ski jumping must meet the body size requirements.

It is noted that the girls could actually refuse the inspection, but in that case, they would not be allowed to the tournament. According to the rules of the International Ski Federation (FIS), female athletes have the right to demand that a female doctor conduct the inspection.
'We respect the athletes' feelings and understand that the presence of a male doctor can cause them discomfort,' – FIS noted.
FIS expressed regret over the situation and confirmed that relevant rights will be upheld in the future.
It should be noted that Norwegian athletes were involved in a major scandal due to fraudulent equipment at the World Championships in Trondheim, which led to changes in inspection rules for skiers before the starts. The main star of the Vietnamese volleyball team, Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen, withdrew from the World Championship for personal reasons, but local media link this to the athlete's gender issues.
Paige Jones complains about the new athlete inspection procedures before competitions, pointing to the discomfort of situations where female athletes are examined by men. The International Ski Federation apologized for this situation and emphasized that this rule will be strictly enforced in the future.
