102-year-old Japanese man conquers Fuji: the oldest climber in the world sets a record
According to glavcom.ua: Kokichi Akuzawa, who is the honorary president of the Gunma Mountaineering Club, is passionate about conquering mountains. On his 99th birthday, he took on the challenge of climbing Mount Nabewariyama, which rises to 1272 meters.
At 102 years old, the Japanese man climbed to the highest point of the country - Mount Fuji, which has an elevation of 3776 meters. This achievement made him the oldest man in the world to reach this summit. The information was confirmed by specialists from the Guinness World Records.
This time he decided to take on a new challenge - to conquer Fuji. The last time he was at the summit of this mountain, he was 96 years old. The ascent began on August 3 via the Yoshida route, which, even though considered the easiest, still requires endurance. To avoid overload, he divided the route into three days with overnight stays in mountain huts. At high altitudes, he had to cope with cold, strong winds, and a lack of oxygen.
The last, most difficult section of the path was near the ninth station, where Kokichi wanted to give up. However, his motivator daughter Motoe whispered to him: 'Move step by step.' These words helped him continue the ascent, which culminated at the summit on August 5 at 11:00.
Despite his age and health issues, Kokichi Akuzawa achieved his goal through regular training and strong determination. He felt more relief than joy when he reached the top, but with a certificate from the Guinness World Records, he felt happy.
