Hello is no longer in fashion: Generation Z has a new trend in answering calls
According to glavcom.ua: Experts warn that scammers can use fragments of conversations to create fake calls, which jeopardizes user privacy. There are also automated spam calls that are triggered by hearing a voice on the other end of the line. Therefore, silence or unemotional responses have become the norm for Zoomers. Moreover, they believe that the initiator of a conversation should take responsibility for starting it.
Representatives of Generation Z or Zoomers no longer say «hello» at the beginning of a phone conversation, considering it a new norm of digital behavior. Young people born roughly from the late 1990s to the early 2010s are massively abandoning the customary greeting at the start of a call. This change in behavior is, in part, related to concerns about personal safety in the context of widespread phone scams.
New etiquette
The emergence of new digital technologies and changes in cultural norms define a new form of phone etiquette for young people. Making a phone call without prior agreement has become unacceptable for them, as they perceive it as an invasion of privacy and a potential threat. These changes lead to a profound rethinking of previously accepted norms of communication and politeness in the digital age.
Edison's norms are in the past
One of the reasons for the change in behavior has been the need to move away from outdated cultural norms, among which was the customary greeting «hello» at the start of a conversation. The abandonment of this standard is a natural evolutionary process in the field of communication and reflects the new reality of the digital world.
Generation Z rejects the habit of saying «hello» at the beginning of a phone conversation due to increased attention to digital security arising from the spread of phone scams. Experts warn about the possibility of using fragments of conversations to deceive users, which leads to a change in communication norms among the younger generation.
