Azerbaijan Issues Protest Note to Russia Over Drone Strike on Fuel Station in Mykolaiv Region
Azerbaijan Protests Drone Attack
According to Главком: Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Russian Ambassador Mikhail Yevdokimov and handed him a formal protest note following a Russian drone strike on a SOCAR gas station in the Mykolaiv region on the evening of July 5. The attack involved three Shahed-type combat drones targeting the fuel complex in the village of Nechayane. While the station's building sustained damage, no casualties were reported.
According to SOCAR, preventive safety measures, strict adherence to air raid instructions, and the presence of a protective shelter ensured that everyone was inside during the strike, preventing any loss of life.
“At the time of the strike, everyone was in the shelter, so there were no casualties,” SOCAR stated.
Russian Forces Target SOCAR Facilities
In previous incidents, Russian forces also struck a SOCAR gas distribution compressor station and an oil depot in the Odesa region, causing material damage and injuring employees. These attacks additionally damaged the Azerbaijani embassy in Kyiv and the honorary consulate in Kharkiv. Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry issued a strong protest over the drone strike, emphasizing that “the continuation of such incidents, despite repeated warnings, indicates that the attacks are deliberate.”
As a result, Azerbaijan has called on Russia to investigate these incidents and provide explanations for the attacks on SOCAR-owned facilities.
This development highlights growing tensions between Azerbaijan and Russia, particularly in light of recent military actions that have damaged Azerbaijani infrastructure. The Foreign Ministry's response underscores the seriousness of the situation and potential repercussions for bilateral diplomatic relations. Observers are closely watching for Russia's next steps in addressing these allegations, as the outcome could affect regional stability.
The recent drone strike on SOCAR facilities is not an isolated incident, as tensions in the region continue to escalate. Just days ago, Ukraine confirmed a second attack on a Moscow oil refinery within a week, underscoring the ongoing conflict and its implications for energy security.
