BRICS discussed the war in Ukraine: what decisions the leaders made at the summit
Leaders of BRICS countries will support communication on the war in Ukraine and the conflict in Gaza. According to official information, this was decided during an online meeting on September 8, attended by the heads of China and Russia.
'The parties agreed to maintain communication on such hot topics as the 'Ukrainian crisis' (as BRICS calls the Russian war against Ukraine) and the conflict in Gaza,' the statement said.
The meeting also noted the necessity of effective work of the 'Group of Friends of Peace' at the UN, created last year with the assistance of China and Brazil, to address the 'Ukrainian crisis.'
The issue of countering rising US tariffs was the main topic at the BRICS countries' meeting. The head of China called for deepening cooperation, protecting the international trading system, and jointly fighting for an international order based on international law.
President Xi Jinping made proposals: to defend the UN and the international order, to support multilateral trade with the World Trade Organization at the center, and to actively cooperate for common development.
China also expressed its intention to continue cooperation with other BRICS countries within the framework of the Global Development Initiative and the 'One Belt, One Road' project.
The meeting of BRICS leaders confirmed their readiness to work together to address global conflicts and to protect the international order and trade. The emphasis was placed on supporting peace in Ukraine and defending against rising tariffs from a US ally.
