Bald and bankrupt's ranking of the Soviet republics

According to УНІАН — Туризм: British travel content creator Bald and bankrupt has released a personal ranking of all 15 former Soviet republics based on his extensive travels. Belarus took the top spot, Ukraine placed third, and Russia came in fifth. The vlogger described Ukrainians as having 'the right mix of Slavic indifference and friendliness' and highlighted the country's many attractions, including Kharkiv, Odesa, Lviv, and Pereiaslav.

Bald and bankrupt runs a YouTube channel where he shares his travel experiences. He has visited every former Soviet republic, starting with Ukraine in 1993, and estimates he has returned to Ukraine around 30 times over the years, leaving him with overwhelmingly positive memories.

Assessments of other republics

In his ranking, Bald and bankrupt also evaluated the other republics. He called Belarus the 'best Soviet Republic,' citing its people and their stories as particularly compelling. Regarding Russia, he recounted experiencing two robberies, being forced to apologize in public, and getting arrested in Siberia. Still, he noted that 'the distances in the country are insane – you have to travel for days by train, watching tumbleweeds and camels.'

Bald and bankrupt's full ranking of the Soviet republics is as follows:

  • Belarus
  • Moldova
  • Ukraine
  • Kyrgyzstan
  • Russia
  • Lithuania
  • Armenia
  • Uzbekistan
  • Latvia
  • Georgia
  • Tajikistan
  • Estonia
  • Azerbaijan
  • Kazakhstan
  • Turkmenistan

Each republic has unique features that the blogger highlights in his videos and comments. For instance, he remarked that 'Tallinn is a wonderfully preserved medieval city. There is zero chance of being robbed by a hooligan or stopped by a corrupt policeman there.'

Bald and bankrupt has also authored a book about his adventures in Belarus, underscoring his deep interest in the country. His impressions and observations help paint a fuller picture of the former Soviet republics and their cultural distinctiveness.

This ranking, rooted in personal experience, may boost tourist interest in these countries, especially Belarus and Ukraine. Given Bald and bankrupt's substantial audience, his opinions could shape how visitors perceive these regions and foster cultural exchange. It remains to be seen how such publications will influence travel flows and local economies in the future.
