Czechia reduces social benefits for Ukrainians: reasons and consequences
In Czechia, the conditions for temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees are being changed. The authorities plan to reduce social benefits and make changes to the protection conditions. The reason for this step is Ukraine's adoption of a special permit for young people to travel abroad. Currently, over 400 thousand Ukrainians reside in Czechia, making it the leader in the EU in terms of the number of representatives from Ukraine. In the past month, the Czech authorities have granted over 13 thousand temporary protection permits, exceeding annual limits. This is related to the possibility of legal travel for young people abroad according to Ukrainian legislation. The conditions for temporary protection in Czechia will be reviewed if the flow of Ukrainians continues; however, at present, the term has been extended to 2027, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior added.Additionally, a review of social assistance conditions for Ukrainians in Czechia is planned, which will be available for certain categories of citizens. Information about providing a satellite for monitoring the territory of Ukraine has also been confirmed; the project will be implemented in the near future.
