A Sisterly Bond Tested by War
According to Главком: Antonina Paperna, the daughter of Ukraine's National Artist Olga Sumska, currently lives and works in the Russian Federation. Her younger sister, Hanna Bori siuk, has spoken about their relationship since the full-scale invasion began, stating they have not seen each other since. Hanna expressed the painful feeling of being unable to see her nephews, who are now eight and five years old.
'We haven't seen each other in a very long time – since the start of the full-scale invasion. It is very painful to watch them only through video, to see how quickly they are growing up,' Hanna Bori siuk
Antonina Paperna, who graduated from Moscow's Boris Shchukin Theatre Institute in 2015, has been actively working in Russia since then. She has appeared in several Russian TV series, including 'Your Home' and the melodrama 'Cold Dish'. After graduating, Antonina began working at the First Studio of the Vakhtangov Theatre, continuing her career in theatre and film.
Hanna Bori siuk's Feelings and Hopes
Hanna Bori siuk also shared her feelings for her sister, stating:
'Who is Tonya to me? My second mother. Of course, we are also friends, you could say that, but she has always been so much more to me.' Hanna Bori siuk
She noted that long-distance communication is not always easy but expressed hope for a future reunion with her sister. 'I hope that someday we will allow ourselves to believe in more – in a meeting, in shared moments, in the simple possibility of being together. I know I will not forgive myself if that does not happen,' Hanna added.
She also mentioned that she does not make many friends outside her family, asserting: 'My friends are my family.' The sisters remain close despite the distance and the circumstances affecting their lives.
The lack of contact between the sisters, caused by the political situation, highlights the personal losses many Ukrainians are enduring during the war. The distance between them is not only physical but also emotional, as both sisters try to maintain a connection through memories and hopes for the future. This reflects the complexity of family relationships in the context of a conflict that divides people, while simultaneously demonstrating the strength of bonds that withstand the test of time and circumstance.
