The dialogue centered on strengthening collaboration in mine action, with a particular focus on equipping SES units with cutting-edge technology and specialized gear. Professional training for personnel was also highlighted as a critical factor in boosting the effectiveness of counter-mine operations. A separate emphasis was placed on coordinating joint initiatives to accelerate the clearance of explosive hazards from affected areas.
'Humanitarian demining remains one of Ukraine’s most pressing challenges. With backing from international partners like UNOPS, the SES has significantly enhanced its capabilities in this field. At the same time, we remain open to expanding cooperation in other areas that can bolster community safety, improve preparedness for emerging threats, and speed up the recovery of impacted regions.' Tim Lardner of UNOPS expressed solidarity with Ukraine, stating: 'We are deeply impressed by the resilience of the Ukrainian people and the professionalism of SES personnel, who operate daily under extremely difficult conditions. It is an honor to stand with you as a partner. We remain committed to supporting Ukraine, strengthening the service’s capacities, and fostering long-term collaboration for the safety of people and the nation’s recovery.'
Through this partnership, efforts are underway to align international technical assistance with the specific needs of the SES, ultimately aiming to create safe conditions for the return of displaced populations and the restoration of communities.
This engagement between SES and UNOPS underscores the vital role of international support in Ukraine’s security and humanitarian demining sectors. In the aftermath of armed conflicts that have left vast areas littered with unexploded ordnance, effective coordination with global partners is essential for restoring safety in local communities. Such initiatives can significantly contribute to stabilizing the country and improving living conditions for its people.
As Ukraine continues to enhance its demining capabilities with international support, the recent EU aid package provides additional resources, including generators and firefighting equipment, crucial for ensuring community safety and resilience in affected regions.
