Power Restored to Kyiv Pechersk Lavra Following Attack
According to Главком: A Russian missile strike on June 15 caused significant damage to the UNESCO World Heritage site, with the Dormition Cathedral bearing the brunt of the assault. The attack directly hit the cathedral, sparking a roof fire and cutting off electricity to the historic complex. Engineers from DTEK have now successfully restored power to the site, enabling repair efforts to move forward.
The Ukrainian Orthodox Church’s Information and Education Department issued an official statement confirming the overnight strike on the Dormition Cathedral, noting that sacred relics and liturgical items from the lavra were evacuated in time. After the Russian attack, DTEK representatives stated:
“The work was extremely challenging, but DTEK’s energy workers brought light back to one of the most important sanctuaries in Ukraine and all of Europe. This will allow the restoration of the Dormition Cathedral to continue.”
