The European Union is implementing a ban on the use of one of the key components for gel polishes and acrylic nails in manicure. From September 1, 2025, the use of TPO, which is used for curing gels under ultraviolet light, will be prohibited. This could significantly impact the beauty industry, reports 'Glavkom' citing KoSSev.

The ban is introduced by a decision of the European Commission, which expands the Cosmetics Regulation. Now beauty salons, professionals, and manufacturers in the EU must transition to safer alternatives without TPO and accordingly remove residues in accordance with the legislation.

Experts note that the market is reacting quickly, offering safer alternatives to avoid allergic reactions and ensure consumer safety.

Manufacturers are working on new safer alternatives, such as TPO-L or Ivocerin, but no ideal replacement has yet been found. They are required to adapt product formulas in line with the new requirements. Additionally, the leading platform Pinterest has published a report on the fall trends of 2025, highlighting the growing popularity of conscious consumption and individuality.
