Fake 50 and 100 dollar bills: which denominations are most often counterfeited
Fraudsters try to sell counterfeit dollars through unofficial currency exchange points, advertisements on the internet, or during private transactions. Specialists warn about the dangers of receiving such banknotes in public transport, at markets, or during personal deals.
According to the National Bank of Ukraine, in 2025, there was a noticeable increase in cases of counterfeit US dollars being used in the country. The most frequently counterfeited bills are those with a denomination of $50 and $100, which currently account for over 90% of all detected fakes. This is explained by the fact that these denominations are the most common in cash transactions and have a high value.
Experts in the financial sector note that modern counterfeits may outwardly resemble real money but have a simplified texture, blurred watermarks, or lack a protective ribbon. Often, fakes are printed on smooth paper, which is easy to recognize by touch.
Over the past year, there has been a significant increase in the use of counterfeit American dollars in Ukraine. The most common among fake banknotes are those with a denomination of $50 and $100, which fraudsters try to sell through various channels. Experts advise being attentive and cautious during cash transactions, as modern counterfeits may look like real money but have some differences that can be detected upon careful inspection.
