Income Breakdown for Chemical Industry Specialists in Ukraine

According to Главком: On May 31, 2026, new figures were released detailing earnings for professionals in Ukraine's chemical sector, highlighting sharp regional pay gaps and upward salary momentum. This data arrives just before the traditional Chemist's Day, celebrated on the last Sunday of May-a holiday established by a Presidential Decree in 1994, underscoring the profession's recognized importance.

Currently, the average salary for a process engineer across Ukraine stands at 41,000 UAH, while in Kyiv it reaches 56,000 UAH. Salaries for process engineers range from 23,000 to 87,000 UAH. For general chemists, the national average is 27,500 UAH, with a median salary in Kyiv of around 30,000 UAH. Analytical chemists earn between 20,000 and 40,000 UAH; entry-level positions offer 15,000–20,000 UAH. Experienced specialists with a PhD or narrow expertise command 30,000 to 50,000 UAH or more, while chemical engineers in production roles can earn up to 50,000 UAH.

Salary Growth and Regional Disparities

Year-over-year analysis shows process engineer salaries jumped 37%, analytical chemist pay rose 24%, and general chemist wages increased 10% compared to May of the previous year. However, in 2025, nominal wage growth in the chemical industry slowed to 16.9%, down from a prior 34.8% spike. After adjusting for inflation, real salary growth was just 3%.

Regional differences are stark. In Kyiv, analytical chemists earn between 25,000 and 45,000 UAH; in Lviv and Kharkiv, the range is 20,000–35,000 UAH. Starting pay for analysts in smaller cities varies from 12,000 to 18,000 UAH. Professionals with expertise in 'green chemistry' typically earn 15–20% above average, and seasoned green chemists with digital skills can make around 40,000 UAH.

Since the start of 2026, a monthly bonus of 20,000 UAH has been introduced for work at critical infrastructure sites. On the downside, the industry has suffered losses: the closure of plants in Rubizhne and Lysychansk eliminated major production capacity, potentially hampering future sector growth and specialist earnings.

Rising salaries in the chemical field signal positive trends, but significant regional gaps point to uneven development across the sector.

While the new critical infrastructure bonuses may improve financial conditions for some workers, plant closures pose serious challenges to the industry's overall health. Monitoring further labor market shifts in this field will be key to understanding how they shape career prospects for chemists in Ukraine.

As the chemical industry witnesses significant salary trends, it's essential to consider the broader context of wage growth across various sectors in Ukraine. Recent data shows that the average earnings in the country have also seen notable changes, reflecting economic shifts that impact professionals beyond just chemists. Understanding these trends can provide valuable insights for those navigating their career paths in today's job market.
