Food Price Index: Which Cities in Europe Have the Most Expensive Supermarkets
Swiss Geneva has been named the most expensive city in Europe for food prices, surpassing even New York. The city scored 106 points, meaning that food prices there are 6% higher than in the Big Apple.
Zurich ranks second in terms of expense in Europe with a score of 103 points, which also exceeds prices in New York. These are the only two European cities that have outperformed the American metropolis in terms of food pricing policy.
Many European cities have average price ratings from 58 to 63 points. Among them: Helsinki (63), Vienna (63), Copenhagen (63), Milan (62), London (62), Brussels (61), Edinburgh (61), Frankfurt (58), Dublin (58), Amsterdam (58), Munich (58), and Stockholm (58).
The research also indicated that Budapest and Warsaw are the cheapest European cities for grocery shopping, each scoring 37 points. This means that a grocery basket costing 100 euros in New York would only cost 37 euros in the capitals of Hungary and Poland.
The study showed that Geneva and Zurich emerged as the most expensive cities in Europe for food prices, even exceeding New York. Meanwhile, Budapest and Warsaw proved to be the cheapest European cities for grocery shopping.
