Situation in Iran

According to Главком: The situation in Iran is escalating amid international threats and internal protests. The Iranian government officially responded to statements made by US President Donald Trump, while opposition leader Reza Pahlavi called for mass protests. Protests in Iran, which began in late 2025, were triggered by the worsening economic situation in the country.

Since the beginning of 2025, the Iranian rial has lost nearly half of its value against the dollar, significantly complicating life for the population. Inflation in Iran reached 42.5% in December 2025, which only heightened social tension. On December 30, 2025, university students joined the protests, indicating widespread dissatisfaction.

Response to the Protests

As of January 1, 2026, there were reports of at least seven people killed across four different cities in Iran. These protests have become the largest since the unrest of 2022, indicating growing discontent among the population. In response to these events, the President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, stated his willingness to listen to the legitimate demands of the protesters.

“If Iran opens fire on peaceful protesters and brutally kills them, as it usually does, the United States will come to their aid. We are fully prepared and ready to act.”

Donald Trump

Currently, Iran is going through a difficult period, where economic problems and political repression are leading to mass protests. The response of the international community, particularly the USA, could significantly influence the dynamics of events in the country. This, in turn, could change Iran's domestic policy and its relations with other states, especially in the context of geopolitical tensions in the region.
