Valencia to Host Total Solar Eclipse

According to УНІАН — Туризм: On August 12, 2026, a total solar eclipse will sweep across Spain, with Valencia emerging as a key viewing location. The full phase in Valencia will last between 60 and 70 seconds, occurring precisely from 20:32 to 20:33 local time, while the partial eclipse will be visible from 19:38 to 21:01. This celestial event marks the first time mainland Spain has witnessed a total solar eclipse since 1905, making it a historic occasion for residents and visitors alike.

After 2026, Spain won't see another total solar eclipse until 2053, though the country is set to experience three eclipses between 2026 and 2028. According to National Geographic, organizers in Valencia are already preparing a program of activities to help people observe the phenomenon safely and enjoyably.

Planned Activities in Valencia

The planned events in Valencia will include:

  • observation platforms
  • lectures
  • workshops
  • guided tours

Several special offers will also be available, such as eclipse packages from hotels featuring cocktails and terraces, as well as opportunities to watch from a yacht or a traditional wooden boat in the Albufera Natural Park.

“A total solar eclipse is not just a spectacle-it's one of those rare moments when nature dims the sun enough for us to see what is otherwise invisible.”

Pedro García Lario, Astronomer at the European Space Agency

However, he also warned about the dangers of viewing without proper protection, adding that “it can lead to permanent loss of central vision.” Therefore, observers must use glasses certified to the ISO 12312-2 standard.

The official observation points for this event are Puçol Beach and the certified dark sky reserve of Aras de los Olmos. These locations will offer residents and visitors to Valencia a unique chance to witness one of nature's most breathtaking phenomena.

The total solar eclipse in Valencia is a major event not only for locals but also for tourists from other regions and countries. The organization of special activities and excursions reflects a strong interest in promoting astronomy and nature-related cultural initiatives. This phenomenon is expected to draw a wide audience, potentially boosting tourism in the area. It is also crucial to follow safety recommendations during observation to avoid injury. In this way, the event not only provides an opportunity to enjoy a beautiful natural spectacle but also underscores the importance of a conscious and responsible approach to viewing it.
