The history of real French beer: Kronenbourg from its founding to today
Від століття до сучасності: еволюція французького пива Kronenbourg.

Traditionally, Germany is considered the homeland of modern beer, but worthy brands of brewing can be found not only in this country. One of the most well-known French varieties of French beer is Kronenbourg.

The drink is primarily appreciated by the French: a third of all beer consumed in the country belongs to Kronenbourg. To learn more about how the Kronenbourg company achieved its current status and what makes it popular among beer lovers, you can read our material.

The formation of the French brewery

The company's history begins in the distant year of 1664 in Strasbourg: it was there that the brewery Le Canon was opened by a certain Jéronimus Gatt. He skillfully managed production with the kind of attention to detail that is probably only found in the French. Over time, the business was passed down only to members of the Gatt family, and even now, the company's management includes descendants of this same family. Since 1850, production has been located in Kronenbourg.

The drink quickly gained popularity in France, especially in its native province. Over time, it began to be exported abroad. And in the 20th century, it even topped the list of the best-selling beers in France.

The drink received its modern name only in 1947. Even immediately after the end of World War II, the brand's marketers decided to hint in the name that the company follows German brewing traditions. By 1952, the date of the founding of the first brewery was added to the name.

Features of Kronenbourg beer

The company constantly experiments with flavors, often releasing new drinks. In addition to classic barley beer, the assortment includes wheat beer, non-alcoholic, light, and dark beers.

Currently, in the brand's assortment, for example, on the MAUDAU website, you will find:

  1. Kronenbourg 1664, Blanc 4.8% ABV. A beer with a light fruity taste with notes of orange and other citrus fruits. Thanks to the addition of not only pulp but also zest, it achieves a slightly spicy aftertaste. Available in glass bottles and branded cans.
  2. Kronenbourg 1664, light, 5% ABV. An equally light wheat drink made from spring pure water, Alsatian hops, and barley malt. The main feature of the drink is its spices. Orange zest and coriander make not only the taste of the drink but also its aroma unique.
  3. Bio Non Filtree, 5.5% ABV. A light unfiltered beer made using organic technology. The drink's taste is rich, with notes of hops and citrus fruits. Its aroma is floral-fruity.
  4. Kronenbourg Gold, 6.1% ABV. A drink of distinctive golden hue, with a taste of hops and various types of malt. The aftertaste features fresh fruits.

In addition to traditional hoppy drinks, Kronenbourg also produces fruit-based beverages. They add natural raspberry, blackberry, orange, and other fruit juices. This is the ideal option for cocktails and fans of light low-alcohol drinks.

For an even deeper taste revelation, serve Kronenbourg beer with salty red fish, fresh fruits, pistachios or peanuts, and dried chicken.
