According to glavcom.ua: The Italian government plans to issue nearly 500,000 new work visas for citizens from non-EU countries between 2026 and 2028. This decision was made to address the labor shortage, reports 'Glavkom' citing Reuters. As part of the strategy to expand channels for legal migration, the Italian government aims to allow the entry of 164,850 foreign workers as early as 2026, and by 2028 the number of work permits is expected to reach 497,550.

'The quotas were determined based on the needs expressed by social partners and actual applications for work permits submitted in previous years,' said the Italian government.

The Italian agricultural association Coldiretti supported this government step, calling it important for ensuring labor in agriculture and food production. It is worth noting that this is already the second such step taken by the government under Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, aimed at increasing the number of work permits for foreigners.

The Italian government plans to issue a significant number of new work visas for immigrants from countries outside the European Union to ensure the necessary workforce and improve the situation in agriculture. This step is part of the strategy for developing legal migration in Italy and will help the country cope with economic challenges in the future.
