Detention of Yan Pidvesotsky

According to Главком: Ukrainian singer Kamaliya has publicly denounced the detention of her cousin, Yan Pidvesotsky, by personnel from the Territorial Recruitment Centers (TCC), alleging brutal treatment. Yan is visually impaired, registered as a person with a disability, and is the only son of a mother who also has a disability. The artist has appealed directly to President Volodymyr Zelensky, demanding an investigation into TCC conduct. She claims her cousin was subjected to humiliation, threats, and coercion to sign documents, and that he was handled with excessive force.

Kamaliya stressed that this is not an isolated incident. Yan had previously experienced similar mistreatment, which required a long period of psychological recovery and medical treatment. She stated, 'Since the start of the full-scale invasion, our family, like millions of Ukrainian families, has endured immense pain, loss, and trials.' The singer recalled that one of her brothers was killed at the front, while another has gone missing in action.

Kamaliya’s Outrage

Expressing her fury over the situation, Kamaliya said:

“Today, our family is once again experiencing fear, pain, and helplessness. He was snatched right off the street… It is unacceptable that under the banner of mobilization, people are humiliated, beaten, intimidated, and grabbed indiscriminately on the streets.”

She emphasized that many of her relatives are currently defending Ukraine, making the detention of her brother all the more intolerable.

Two of Kamaliya’s brothers served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. One of them, Serhiy Kanatnikov-Pryadko, was killed at the front after sustaining multiple wounds during his service. His death was yet another tragic loss for the family. The case of Yan Pidvesotsky has now sparked widespread public outcry and demands for attention from the highest state authorities.

This incident highlights the urgent need for oversight of TCC actions, especially during wartime in Ukraine, where mobilization and conscription have drawn sharp criticism. Kamaliya’s statement could serve as a catalyst for reviewing mobilization policies and protecting the rights of people with disabilities, who are particularly vulnerable in such situations. Cases like these raise fundamental questions about the ethical boundaries of military conscription and the necessity of ensuring humane treatment for all citizens, regardless of their physical condition.
