Kenyan Citizens Recruited for Russia's War in Ukraine

According to Главком: The Kenyan parliament has revealed a large-scale operation to recruit its citizens for Russia's war against Ukraine. According to MP Kimani Ichung'wah, more than 1000 Kenyans have been enlisted into the Russian military. The MP disclosed intelligence from Kenya's security and criminal investigation services confirming this activity.

Recruitment Terms and Deception

Recruiters promise Kenyans jobs in construction or security with salaries starting at $2000. However, upon arrival in Russia, their passports are confiscated and they are forced to sign contracts with the defense ministry. Exit from Kenya is organized through tourist visas obtained in Istanbul, Turkey, and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The contracts promise a monthly salary between 920 and 2400 euros, paid through a Nairobi-based agency. In the last two months alone, 30,000 Kenyans have relocated to Russia. The recruitment agencies involved have since been shut down. Some Kenyans who fought for Russia are now prisoners of war, and Foreign Minister Musalia Mudavadi is working to secure their release. He also plans to visit Moscow to discuss the recruitment of Kenyan nationals. This case highlights a growing trend of foreign nationals being drawn into the Ukraine conflict, often under false pretenses.

"To date, over 1000 Kenyans have been recruited and have gone to fight in the Russia-Ukraine war," stated Kimani Ichung'wah.

This situation points to serious risks associated with international recruitment for conflict zones and underscores the need for stricter oversight of labor agencies in Kenya. While authorities are attempting to address the problem, the scale of recruitment suggests deeper socio-economic pressures driving citizens to seek opportunities abroad, even under dangerous circumstances. Kenya's diplomatic efforts to repatriate its citizens further illustrate the complex and perilous nature of involvement in foreign wars.
