Successful Deployment of Chinese Satellites

According to Главком: China’s commercial Lijian-1 Y14 rocket has placed eight new remote sensing satellites into low-Earth orbit. The launch took place from the Dongfeng commercial spaceport, situated in the Gobi Desert in northwestern China. These satellites join the Jilin-1 Gaofen series, capable of capturing Earth’s surface with a resolution of 0.5 meters per pixel and a swath width of 150 kilometers.

Future Plans

Starting in the second half of 2026, monthly satellite launches are scheduled, along with two sea-based missions. The new spacecraft are designed for:

  • environmental monitoring,
  • emergency response coordination,
  • natural resource exploration,
  • tracking ecological changes.

In related developments, China recently sent three astronauts to its space station, with one set to remain aboard for a full year. This marks nearly the tenth crewed mission to the Chinese space station. China also aims to achieve a crewed Moon landing by 2030. Notably, astronauts have now seen the far side of the Moon for the first time since 1972, highlighting the significance of China’s space achievements.

These events reflect the rapid expansion of China’s space program, which encompasses not only satellite launches but also crewed missions to the space station and ambitious lunar exploration plans.

Expanding Earth observation capabilities is critical for environmental monitoring and natural resource management, with far-reaching implications for global ecological security. Additionally, successful space station missions underscore China’s growing role in international space collaboration and research.

As China continues to enhance its space capabilities, the recent launch of eight satellites complements the nation’s ongoing efforts in astronaut missions. For instance, the recent record-breaking mission of three astronauts to the Chinese space station showcases the ambitious goals of the country’s space program, including plans for lunar exploration and long-term habitation in space.
