Compensation Program for Veterans

The Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine is implementing a monetary compensation program for the rental of housing in accordance with the Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 252.

'From now on, compensation can be obtained not only by defenders who have lost or have damaged housing due to combat actions, but also by demobilized veterans who are internally displaced persons and do not have their own housing or lived in houses that were not their property,' the Ministry of Veterans stated.

Who can receive compensation:

  • defenders who have lost or have damaged housing due to combat actions;
  • veterans undergoing rehabilitation far from their declared place of residence (more than 15 km);
  • internally displaced veterans who do not have their own housing or lived in rented accommodation.

The amount of compensation depends on the place of residence:

  • Kyiv, Dnipro, Lviv, Odesa — 2 living minimums (currently 6,056 UAH);
  • regional centers — 1.5 living minimums (4,542 UAH);
  • other settlements — 1 living minimum (3,028 UAH).
'If the rental cost exceeds the amount of compensation, the veteran can pay the difference independently, and the state reimburses the established part. In case of short-term rental (less than a month), the compensation is paid proportionally to the number of days of residence,' the Ministry of Veterans explained.

Funds are transferred to the bank account (IBAN) indicated in the application.

To submit an application, you can contact:

  • the structural unit on veteran policy issues at the place of rented housing;
  • the Administrative Services Center (service No. 02606).

'Documents can be submitted in person or by mail (by registered letter). Applications can be submitted in paper or electronic form (if technically possible) in accordance with the annex to the Procedure No. 252,' the Ministry of Veterans explained.

The mentioned housing rental compensation program expands the opportunities for veterans who find themselves in difficult life circumstances after service. They can now receive support in providing housing, which will undoubtedly ease their social rehabilitation.
