IOC assessed preparations for the 2030 Olympics in the French Alps: what the first visit revealed
The Coordination Commission of the International Olympic Committee completed its first visit to the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, where the 2030 Winter Olympics will take place. IOC representatives became acquainted with key sports facilities and evaluated the preparations, which are going according to plan after the French Alps were chosen to host the Games.
The head of the IOC Coordination Commission, Pierre-Olivier Beckers-Vieujant, emphasized that the French Alps 2030 project actively utilizes existing infrastructure that adheres to principles of sustainability and responsible management. The French Alps have long been renowned for their sports schools and world-class arenas, creating close ties with the sports culture.
The president of the Organizing Committee, Edgar Grospiron, emphasized that the visit provided an opportunity to showcase the project's strengths and lay the groundwork for further cooperation with the IOC.
During the visit, the commission visited key locations in Savoie and Haute-Savoie, such as Val d'Isère, La Plagne, Courchevel, La Clusaz, and Le Grand Bornand, where international winter sports competitions are traditionally held. The organizers also presented an innovative management model and an updated socio-economic and environmental charter for the Games.
