High Demand for Theatre Tickets

According to Главком: Tickets for performances at Kyiv's National Academic Drama Theatre named after Ivan Franko are selling out in a matter of seconds, causing significant frustration among theatergoers. General Director and Artistic Head Yevhen Nyshchuk has addressed the rapid sell-out times and announced new initiatives to improve the audience experience. He noted that tickets for 'Caligula' on the Chamber Stage, which seats 120, sell out in just seventeen seconds. Meanwhile, tickets for 'The Witch of Konotop' on the main stage, with 800 seats, are typically gone within approximately fifty seconds. The Ivan Franko National Theatre is one of Ukraine's premier cultural institutions, making this intense demand a significant logistical challenge.

Theatre Announces New Initiatives

Currently, about 200,000 users are authorized on the theatre's website through a sales system integrated with the Diia app. Due to the overwhelming demand, the theatre plans to launch its own mobile application. Nyshchuk also announced the introduction of an electronic waiting list for those who were close to securing tickets but were not quick enough.

'We want these audience members to have priority in purchasing tickets next time. I am taking this issue very seriously' – Yevhen Nyshchuk.

In other theatre news, actress Anastasiia Blazhchuk made her debut on the Franko Theatre stage last December, playing the role of Khvesia in the production 'Comedy on the Ruins,' directed by Petro Ilchenko. Meanwhile, actor Ivan Zhyliuk has drawn attention due to an incident during an audition where he threatened to harm himself on stage. Zhyliuk expressed anger directed at General Director Yevhen Nyshchuk and directors David Petrosian and Ivan Uryvsky.

The ticket sales situation highlights the immense public interest in the theatre's productions but also underscores the urgent need to improve the customer service system. The management's response, through the electronic queue and planned app, could significantly enhance the visitor experience in the future. Incidents involving actors point to the necessity of supporting creative professionals in high-pressure environments, which can affect the overall atmosphere within the institution.
