Leo Express Launches Direct Train from Przemyśl to Frankfurt
New Route from Leo Express Set to Begin
According to Главком: Czech private rail operator Leo Express is introducing a direct train service connecting Przemyśl, Poland, with Frankfurt am Main, Germany. The inaugural journey is scheduled for June 25. This new route will link major European hubs while passing through several cities, making travel more convenient and affordable for passengers.
The train will depart from Przemyśl, a city near the Ukrainian border. It will stop at the following destinations along the way:
- Krakow
- Ostrava
- Prague
- Dresden
- Leipzig
- Erfurt
The final stops will be Frankfurt am Main and Frankfurt International Airport. Covering over 1,300 kilometers, the train will run daily in both directions.
Tickets for certain segments of the route start as low as €10. Onboard amenities will include Wi-Fi, charging outlets, air conditioning, and a refreshment service offering cold drinks.
“With this new route, we are also tearing down the Iron Curtain between Western and Eastern Europe, connecting key European centers and providing access to Ukraine.” - Peter Köhler, CEO of Leo Express
This development is especially significant given recent events, as Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia) has reported losses of rolling stock due to Russian shelling. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, occupiers have targeted railway infrastructure, highlighting the need for reliable transport links in the region. The launch of this Leo Express service could mark an important step in restoring rail connections and supporting passenger mobility.
Why This New Connection Matters
The introduction of the Leo Express route between Przemyśl and Frankfurt am Main is set to enhance transport links between Eastern and Western Europe, a priority amid current challenges. Beyond easing travel for passengers, this project may bolster economic cooperation between countries, given the critical role of rail in moving people and goods across the region. The new service could also play a key part in rebuilding Ukraine’s war-damaged transport infrastructure.
As travel options expand in the region, it's worth noting that Ukrainian train schedules are also shifting to daily services this summer. This change complements the new Leo Express route, enhancing connectivity and offering more frequent travel opportunities for passengers navigating between Eastern and Western Europe.
