Mercedes-Benz and Tytan Technologies join forces strategically

According to Главком: Mercedes-Benz has entered a strategic alliance with Munich-based startup Tytan Technologies to develop a mobile counter-drone system called Drone Defender, utilizing G-Class SUVs and Sprinter vans as its base vehicles. A memorandum of understanding was signed on June 10 at the ILA International Aerospace Exhibition in Berlin. This system is set to become a vital asset for safeguarding Germany's critical infrastructure.

Technical highlights of the Drone Defender system

The Drone Defender system will equip G-Class models with radars, sensors, and launchers for Tytan's interceptor drones. Sprinter vans will serve as mobile command centers, enabling rapid threat response. Additionally, the system can be deployed in a stationary configuration, further enhancing defensive capabilities.

Tytan Technologies, founded in 2023 by Balázs Nagy and Batuhan Yumurtacı-both graduates of the Technical University of Munich-has already established itself in the market by supplying interceptor drones to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In February 2026, the company closed a €30 million funding round backed by the Armira defense fund and the NATO Investment Fund. Tytan's total capital raised now stands at €46 million. A factory in Munich is expected to open by the end of this year, with a production capacity of up to 3,000 drones per month.

The Drone Defender system, developed in collaboration with Tytan, aims not only to strengthen Germany's defense but also to improve protection in active combat zones. Ukraine's Minister of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov, commented:

'These interceptors have proven their effectiveness in combat and have become a key element in protecting Ukraine's skies: in March alone, they destroyed over 33,000 enemy drones.' Mykhailo Fedorov, Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine

This partnership between Mercedes-Benz and Tytan Technologies highlights the growing significance of air defense technologies in today's world, especially as drone-based threats become more prevalent. By introducing innovative solutions to protect critical infrastructure, Germany can significantly bolster its security. Given Tytan's proven track record of supplying effective interceptor drones to Ukraine, this collaboration could pave the way for new technological breakthroughs in European security and defense.

As countries enhance their defense capabilities, the use of automated interceptor drones has become increasingly relevant. Recent tests in Ukraine demonstrated a 95% automation rate for these systems, underscoring the growing importance of advanced drone technology in modern warfare and reinforcing the strategic need for innovations like Mercedes-Benz's Drone Defender.
