Scenarios for Ending the War Between Russia and Ukraine

According to Главком: Myroslav Marianovych, vice-rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University, former dissident and political prisoner, discussed possible scenarios for ending the war between Russia and Ukraine in an interview. He highlighted the role of Vladimir Putin in the negotiations and the impact of internal changes in Russia on the further course of events. According to Marianovych, in the West in 2024, there was a belief that Putin would not go against NATO members, which could influence the strategies of both sides in the conflict.

Marianovych emphasized that Russia is as exhausted as Ukraine, which may indicate a readiness for negotiations. He noted that if Putin refuses to sign an agreement at the moment when President Zelensky is prepared to make compromises, then the blame for the failure of the negotiations will fall squarely on Putin. This could significantly change the perception of the conflict on the international stage.

Possible Scenarios for Ending the Conflict

Among the possible scenarios for ending the war, Marianovych considers an elite rebellion against Putin, which could be an important factor in the further development of events. He expressed hope that

“the first to fall will not be Ukraine”

- this indicates optimism regarding the resilience of the Ukrainian people and state in wartime conditions. All these factors suggest that the future of the conflict depends not only on military actions but also on political decisions made in the Kremlin.

Myroslav Marianovych's discussion addresses important aspects of the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine and indicates the complexity of a situation where military and political factors intertwine. The internal dynamics of Russia, as well as international relations, may determine the further steps of the Kremlin and Ukraine, making the prospects for ending the conflict uncertain, but at the same time opening up opportunities for diplomacy. Given Marianovych's expressed hopes, it can be argued that Ukraine's resilience and willingness to compromise could be key to achieving peace.
