Ukraine Lifts Travel Advisory for Hungary Following Election Outcome
Ukraine's Foreign Ministry Withdraws Travel Warning
According to Главком: Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revoked its advisory for citizens to avoid travel to Hungary, a move prompted by the conclusion of Hungary's parliamentary election campaign. This decision follows the April 12 elections, which resulted in a victory for the opposition. The incumbent Prime Minister, Viktor Orban, has conceded defeat, acknowledging the change in government.
Commenting on the decision, Andrii Sybiha stated:
'In light of the conclusion of yesterday's election campaign in Hungary, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is canceling its previous recommendation for citizens to refrain from traveling to Hungary. This election campaign, which was unfortunately saturated with manipulations regarding Ukraine, is now behind us. Consequently, the heightened risks of provocations that prompted these restrictions have lost their urgency.'
The Significance of Hungary's Election
The Hungarian election marks a pivotal shift, ending 16 years of rule under Viktor Orban. Thousands took to the streets of Budapest to celebrate the opposition's win. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy congratulated the new leader, Péter Márki-Zay, and his party on their electoral success. Sybiha further noted that the Hungarian people's choice reflects a desire to live in peace, security, and prosperity, and represents a rejection of blackmail politics and anti-Ukrainian propaganda.
Sybiha emphasized:
'The choice of the Hungarian people has shown our neighbors' aspiration to live in peace, security, and prosperity-to live in a truly independent Hungary that is part of a united and free Europe, not a zone of Moscow's influence, lawlessness, and intimidation.'
He also expressed hope for the restoration of good neighborly relations between Ukraine and Hungary, which would serve the interests of both nations and Europe as a whole.
'Our peoples deserve for us to walk this path, and we will work to restore good neighborly relations,'
concluded Andrii Sybiha.
The lifting of Ukraine's travel advisory for Hungary signals a positive development in bilateral relations following the election and subsequent change of government in the neighboring country. This shift in Budapest's leadership is seen as a potential catalyst for greater regional stability. The Ukrainian side hopes for improved cooperation and reduced tensions, which could positively impact the security and economic development of both nations.
