According to glavcom.ua: At Sotheby's auction in New York, a meteorite from Mars was sold for $5.3 million - its largest fragment known on Earth. The starting price was $2 million and can be considered quite a high result. Cassandra Hatton, deputy chair of the department of science and natural history at Sotheby's, spoke about the rarity of this stone and its enormous significance.
The meteorite, known as NWA 16788, weighs 24.5 kg and was discovered in Niger. This is an extremely rare find, as only about 400 Martian meteorites have been found on Earth to date. This event can be considered a significant achievement for science and space exploration, as well as proof of the uniqueness of natural phenomena on planet Earth.
