How much more can gasoline and diesel prices rise at gas stations in Ukraine: expert opinion
In Ukraine, gasoline and diesel prices may rise by several hryvnias per liter if global oil prices continue to increase. The most significant rise in fuel prices could impact the agricultural sector and eventually reflect on food prices. This is reported by Espresso.
Member of the Economic Discussion Club Oleg Pendzin noted that a further increase in oil prices in global markets could lead to a new rise in prices at Ukrainian gas stations.
Gasoline prices in Ukraine: how much can they rise
According to the expert, a sharp jump to 100 UAH per liter should not be expected. However, prices may rise by approximately 5-7 UAH per liter if oil prices in global markets exceed 100 dollars per barrel.
As Oleg Pendzin explained, the increase in fuel prices will most affect the agricultural sector.
The main consequences may include:
-
increased costs for spring fieldwork
-
rise in production costs for agricultural products
-
further increase in food prices
Fuel costs and food prices: what to expect
The economist emphasized that the fuel component in the structure of finished product prices is small, but in agriculture, it can account for about 30% of costs.
According to him, this may affect the pricing of the new harvest in the second half of 2026. Meanwhile, a good harvest could partially offset the increase in prices.
Meanwhile, MP Nina Yuzhanina criticized the idea of implementing a "cashback for fuel" program. In her opinion, a more effective solution could be a change in tax policy, particularly lowering excise duties or VAT on fuel.
Recall that the head of the Antimonopoly Committee Pavlo Kyrylenko named the main reasons for the rise in fuel prices in Ukraine.
