NATO prepares 'Plan B' for Ukraine: what will happen if peace talks with Russia fail
NATO's Plan B for Ukraine
NATO is preparing a 'Plan B' for Ukraine in case peace efforts to resolve the conflict with Russia fail. High-ranking officials from the Alliance have reported that if the situation worsens, sanctions against Russia may be intensified, and military support for Ukraine will increase, including providing a larger amount of weapons.
Meeting with Russia
US special envoy Steve Vikaff has scheduled a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on December 2. At this meeting, a new peace plan will be discussed, differing from the initial 28 points. However, European NATO allies express doubts about the effectiveness of US efforts to achieve a peaceful resolution.
A NATO representative noted that there is currently no impression that the Russian president is ready to play a constructive role in the negotiations. According to an interlocutor in the Alliance, for future peace to be fair and sustainable, any agreement must ultimately be agreed upon, primarily with the Ukrainian side. A diplomat, commenting on 'Plan B', emphasized that it consists of increasing support for Ukraine, providing more weapons on the battlefield, as well as enhancing economic support and sanctions against Russia.
The situation surrounding peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine remains tense, and the high likelihood of their failure forces NATO to develop alternative strategies. The increase in military and economic support for Ukraine as part of 'Plan B' indicates the Alliance's determination to ensure regional security, despite the lack of constructive dialogue with Moscow. This may signify further escalation of the conflict if peace initiatives do not yield the desired results.
